Public Policy
AHMA advocates for the distinct needs of Indigenous housing & service providers in order to advance policy and legislation goals in a meaningful way.
Communities see better outcomes when the government produces policies that reach the goals of the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act. Collaborating with members, government, and community partners, we work towards advancing housing as a human right for Indigenous people in BC. Through research and relationships, we strive to help Indigenous youth, families, and individuals facing housing insecurity, homelessness, gender-based violence, and health inequity. By identifying system gaps, supporting our members, and advocating for change, we aim to influence policy and secure funding that benefits all Indigenous people in BC.
AHMA’s Supportive Housing Position Paper advocates for changes to promote the inclusion of Indigenous housing & service providers in BC.
AHMA regularly makes government submissions advocate for more culturally safe, trauma-informed, and equitable approaches to Indigenous homelessness in BC.
